Navy lieutenant commander drowns off Kovalam Beach near Chennai | Chennai News

CHENNAI: A 36-year-old Navy lieutenant commander drowned in the sea off Kovalam Beach near Chennai on Thursday. His body was retrieved on Friday.
Police said Lieutenant Commander J R Suresh, who was posted in New Delhi, and his family members came to his father-in-law’s house in Thoraipakkam on Monday.
On Thursday, the family visited Kovalam Beach and stayed in a private resort there. Suresh took his wife and children to the beach. Suresh was swimming alone in the sea.
The family, who panicked seeing a huge wave, alerted him. While trying to swim to the shore, Suresh was caught in the wave.
When the family members cried for help, fishermen jumped into the sea and tried to rescue Suresh but in vain.
On Friday morning, the Navy joined the rescue operations and found the body.
